How are you?
Quite a meaningless question. The asker of such a question is certainly not interested in the answer – so why ask? Out of politeness? Really…if you want to be polite – don’t ask…unless you want to know the answer. And if perhaps you do answer the “How are you?” question honestly the result is typically a blank stare trying to look sympathetic OR if another party is there – stares to each other asking with their eyes: What are we supposed to do/say now?! Topic change. The weather certainly is nice today.
So…I suppose I will return to my old quiet ways. Saying nothing of the roller coaster of emotions, seeking no advice. Unless, that is, from the person you are paying to care.
Today is a dismal day.
“Hear my cry, O God listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:1-2
The Lord ended a dismal day with a beautiful sunset and an answered prayer.

Although I have wondered about this over-used phrase as well,
when I ask how you are I really want to know. But yes, a lot of times I don't know what to do. What other phrase should we use? I love you! I'm sorry you had a bad day! You are always in my prayers!
